When Everything Feels Like Too Much
There are days when it’s all just… too much. You sit down to start something and your brain says, “Nope.” Your heart races. Your to-do list stares at you. You want to feel better, but you don’t even know where to begin. That’s exactly when you need a reset, not a full routine, not a productivity sprint, but a gentle step-by-step way to come back to yourself. And the good news? It doesn’t need to take more than 10 minutes. This post walks you through a low-pressure, holistic reset routine you can use whenever life feels heavy, plus a free checklist with more tools like this one.

What Is a Reset (and Why It Works)?
A reset is a short, intentional pause that helps you shift out of overwhelm and back into connection with your body, breath, and mind. Unlike routines that demand energy you don’t have, a reset meets you where you are. It acknowledges the fog, the shutdown, the freeze and says, “It’s okay. We’ll start here.” Resets calm your nervous system, increase clarity, and help you feel grounded, without needing a perfect plan or ideal conditions.
The 10-Minute Overwhelm Reset
☁️ Step 1: Ground (2 minutes) Stand or sit. Feel your feet on the floor. Notice what’s touching the ground. Name 3 things you can see, 2 things you can feel, 1 thing you can hear. Take a slow breath. Then one more.
Why this works: When your brain is spinning, sensory grounding gently brings you back into the present moment.
🫁 Step 2: Breathe + Soften (2 minutes) Place one hand on your chest, one on your belly. Take 3 slow, full breaths. With each exhale, imagine your shoulders softening. Repeat this phrase (out loud or silently): “I am safe to pause.”
Why this works: Deep breathing helps regulate the nervous system and increase oxygen to the brain, creating space for calm.
✍️ Step 3: Clear the Noise (3 minutes) Grab a notebook or open a blank notes app. Set a 3-minute timer. Free-write everything that’s swirling in your mind. No structure. No editing. Just let it out.
Why this works: When thoughts are stuck in your head, they create clutter. Getting them out helps create clarity — or at least breathing room.
💛 Step 4: Reconnect (3 minutes) Ask yourself gently: • What would feel supportive right now? • What do I need, not just what’s expected of me? • What’s one thing I can let go of today? Close your reset with a sip of water, a stretch, or 60 seconds of stillness. That’s it.
This Isn’t a Fix, It’s a Return
You don’t have to have all the answers. You just need a way to come back to yourself, especially on the hard days. This 10-minute reset isn’t a productivity hack. It’s a nervous system hug.
Use it any time you feel:
Foggy or frozen
Emotionally stuck
Frazzled or flooded
Like you don’t know where to start
It’s okay if all you do today is reset. That’s enough.
